Survival through astronomy

At this moment in time, December 2011, our globe faces a problem of over-population, and a problem of lack of employment in many well-paid skilled job categories. The internet has decimated millions of job opportunities by creating software programs that handle the normal skilled labors within many trades. The internet has destroyed and eliminated camera, films, and photo shops; printers and engravers, hand-made stone-carving templates, architects, designers, graphic artists, tool-makers, machinists, assembly line workers, postal communication, accountants, bookkeepers, clerks, bank-tellers, customer service agents, and countless other occupations.

This condition eliminates the steadfast structure of community and society by creating an elite business community driven by brokers and middle-men, and traders and merchants. This elite is supported by the wizardry of computer programmers. The trouble with this system is that at one stage or another nature and climate cycles will pull the plug on all this magic by disabling electric transmission of power and communications. This will terminate the Electronic Elite as well as all its serfs and servants, including each and every one living within this artificial system. Once again, publicity and propaganda shows us living in a blown-up and distended bubble of space age of travel to other planets, mining precious minerals on Mars, and conquering new worlds where the entire universe is our precious oyster. When this bubble bursts there will be no one to clean up afterwards. Imagine the refrigeration services in your home and grocery outlet without power. Starvation is near at hand.

Nothing is so reprehensible as to proclaim doom and not to offer a solution. Every person should contact their city, state, and national government and ask for the funding and creation of a Department of Sustainability and Survival which would find and create lands and townships which would exist without electricity, and live in a traditional manner using mechanical technology (human and animal driven) and advanced metallurgy to create the finest hand tools, boats, and other forms of conveyance. Several such communities within each state would form the nucleus for centers of survival. These communities would constantly explore, experiment, and share new methods of insulated home building, water management and conservation, energy sources and fuel management. Such a program would offer countless employment opportunities in interesting and entrepreneurial fields involving artisan and craftsmanship. Their discoveries would also contribute to the research into Green Energy. For example, a well engineered rail system within a flat landscape could operate with a system of elevated stations where the down grade away from the platform would use gravity to supply the initial energy to get the load into motion. Once in motion it would take small amounts of muscle energy to sustain movement and ascend the grade to the next high station. Bicycle paths could be graded to extreme level tolerances and covered with modern concrete and asphalt surfaces which might safely allow speeds of 50 mph. Why not use what we have now to gradually adjust to the non-electric future -rather than to be plummeted into a forthcoming Dark Ages?

Astronomy is the Savior of Civilizations

Of course astronomy is the premiere science which gets your civilization up and running. But astronomy also safeguards civilization from peril and destruction because it can distinguish ordinary climate variations from major catastrophic change. Astronomy supplies the information necessary to make informed and intelligent decisions about all natural phenomena such as the reasons behind global overpopulation -and if and when there will be a normal reversal in trends.

Countless civilizations have been destroyed and have vanished off the face of the earth. Calamities and destructions come in many orders –man-made as well as acts-of-God. There are also wars, rebellions, insurrections, greed, corruption, stupidity, over-development, over-expansion, famine, disease, and environmental breakdown. Corruption flourishes in times of economic bubbles, recessions, and wars. Then there are earthquakes, tsunami, volcanoes, hurricanes, droughts, fires, storms, sand storms, and tornadoes. On the larger cosmic front of galactic cycles and phenomena there are ice ages, global flood, comets, meteors, and fires from heaven. It is actually quite wonderful that at this moment in time that there are so many cities on the face of the world, high population, and abundant food production. The reason for these superior numbers is that for the past 6,480 years the world has experienced exceptionally temperate climate. This may soon change. Quite a modest storm can already disable our electronic based economy –which serves our shelter, cooking, food preservation, heating, air-conditioning, fabrication, production, hospital services, travel, communication and monetary needs.

Just to be on the safe side, the checklist for survival should include: knife, hatchet, bow and arrow, animal traps, fire-bow-sticks and board, flints, Holy Books and a Bible, and a copy of The Culture of Astronomy so that you can be the first in your cavern to start a new civilization and culture. Do not forget bird-lime for catching small birds for food, seeds of barley and wheat, jars for preserving food; and a loom for making clothes and blankets.
